My physicals all show that i am healthy. I live on the coast so i do not get to hike in the mountains that oten. Anyone have an idea why the nausea?

I recenly read an article about a women in Runners World that also had that problem. She also threw up after she started her run and then was fine. Her doc said it was acid reflux from weak esophagus muscles. When your hip belt is cranked down it does kind of squeeze your tummy. Possible also an inner ear problem and the change in gravity center. Does it do it without a pack on a long day hike or only with a pack on. You might grab a back support belt at Sears and put it in the same place as your hip belt, just as tight and see if it has the same effect.

How long does this occur for when u are in the mountains? a few days? a week? more than 2? It could be mild altitude sickness. I had a rough time going from sea level to 4-5000 feet plus. Also; if u get a little phlemy and some runs down your throat maybe your body is just spitting up the phlegm. try sudafed? I forgot my sudafed for the shenendoahs and the flowers were abloomin. i puked near every morning. I finally stopped eating breakfast till after i puked. felt better then. every now and then as well when i brushed my teeth at altitude if i accidentally swallowed some toothpaste stuff with bubblies from my arm and hammer peroxide toothpaste it made me nasuous and i threw up. I actually started keeping track in my journal of all the places I threw up, it was miserable; but humerous at the same time.

Try the hike with and without breakfast. Sounds like acid reflux to me but check with your doc. Maybe if you duplicate it during a tred mill stress test in the office he/she can hear if something is amiss, gurgle etc.

BB change of diet usually affects my stomach, but after a few days.Do you eat way different then on day hike?I think most people lay much flater when hiking which brings us back to the reflux thing but won’t explain the day time stuff.Rolaids Rule!
