Neels to Unicoi was great

Started a Neels Gap last week in the “mist.” No views, but it was cool and never really rained, so hiking was pleasant. Never actually made it to Whitley Gap shelter. One mile off the Trail is a bit much to ask, but can understand its location due to ts close proximity to Hogpen Gap (GA 348).

Did have to pack my tent in the rain at a stealth camp just north of Hogpen Gap. That was kind of a bummer, but that sort of thing comes with the territory.

See they’ve put bear cables at Low Gap Shelter (allowed me to dry out my tent). Nice water source.

Made it to Blue Mountain Shelter just before a strong Low pushed through on Monday (5/20). At one point, I thought Blue Mountain Shelter would pop off the side of the ridge. Stormed for about 30 minutes, and then got cold. Couple of mice came out to check out the pickings. Either they left, or I was too tired, because didn’t see or feel any furry visitors the rest of the night. Looks like the GATC’s been doing some work on the shelter. New porch, wall boards replaced, etc.
