New CDT group - Continental Divide Trail

We need YOUR support. CDTA went under, but the work in MT/ID is far from done. And it’s not over.

I worked for CDTA and started up a new program with MT Wilderness Association. Please help us keep the work going. Folks were disheartened when the old office closed - please don’t let it happen again. Donate $50 to help our work, volunteer projects and planning for 2013!

Please encourage other thru-hikers on AT and PCT to pitch in. We need more interested folks! Thank you in advance for giving back to the trails that have created such great memories for YOU.

There is still the CDTS. I’ve been a member for years

How many groups do we need? Do they compete? Overlap? I just joined the CDTS but I couldn’t tell you who does what.

CDTS does some good arm twisting and advocacy for the trail. They produce a guide that many use. They are a great group and I am a member.

However, they DO NOT build trail, maintain trail, or any such activities. That was the role of CDTA but since they folded, the actual dirt work is being done by several other groups, including cdtmontana, the Colorado Trail Foundation, VOC, and various local forest service districts. Supporting CDTS is a good thing, but it won’t get the trail finished.

I spent time on a VOC crew in Colorado this summer and had a great time building new trail. If I lived further north I think I would have done a cdtmontana crew but it’s a long ways from NM.

That’s helpful. CDTS is inside and CDTA is outside.
