New Colorado Mapbook

The new official CDTA Colorado mapbook is now available for purchase at Lulu.com. It is a spiral bound atlas of 88 full color UTM gridded topographic maps and associated information detailing critical intersections, water sources, high points, etc. Also tables of 1600 gps locations for all of the above. Border to border coverage for Colorado. The trail line on the map was created by hiking the trail with three continuously operating professional grade gps receivers with a position being recorded every second. The book weighs 17.8 ounces and that can be trimmed down by a third by removing the spiral and taking all the gps data tables and other non-map information out then re-inserting the spiral. (The full set of waypoints is also available online from CDTA.) Cost is $46.75 for a hardbound copy or $16.50 to download. To find the online sales page, go to lulu.com and search “Continental Divide Mapbook”. All proceeds from sales go back into the trail.

I purchased the download version and printed it last night. I’m going to use it to finish my 2nd half of CO this summer. It is fantastic! Just what I’ve been waiting for. I probably wouldn’t have gotten lost three times last year in the San Juans if I had carried this.
Bearcreek - when will you finish a Wyoming map set?

We plan on mapping all of Montana/Idaho this summer and some of Wyoming. Counting last year and what we did this spring, we have completed about 380 miles of New Mexico. Assuming that we get all the field work done, the mapbook produced next winter will be for Montana/Idaho.

The CDTA just added information regarding the Mapbook and Colorado waypoints at www.cdtrail.org. The waypoints can be downloaded online at no cost.

I had planned to head SOBO from Wyoming because that’s the way my old 1997 Colorado guidebook reads. Think I’ll get the mapbook and go NOBO instead. I am thinking of starting at Cumbres on 6/15. Any news about the snowpack in southern Colorado?

I received my Map Book yesterday in the mail. It took 6 days from when I ordered it to have it in hand. I must say I think it is quite impressive. It is packed with good information but none of the worthless stuff common to guidebooks. I hiked NM last summer using the free maps and wasted a lot of time getting lost and unlost several times - even with a gps.

I’m starting 7/1 from Cumbres heading north and plan to make it to Pinedale this year. Wish there was another book ready for Wyoming…
