New to the CT - The Colorado Trail

My roommate and i are hiking from copper Mt. to Buena Vista (sec 8 - 12) in mid July. I am an avid day hiker and have dome some over night stuff but nothing this substantial. We are planning on the trip taking 6 days. i have bought the 7th edition of the book as well as the guidebook. Both are great! Can anyone give me any insight as to how accurate they are ie. using coordinates as way points on a GPS. Also is the trail well marked? any information and advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jayson - I thrued the CT in 2005, so perhaps the trail has been reloed in various sections since then. But in my experience, the trail was almost always very well marked. No need for GPS, whatsoever. If I ever thought I might be lost, I just kept following my common sense and what I presumed was the trail, and it always turned out to be the case. Happy Trails!- Matt

I hiked the CT with wildernessbob last year…you can spend some time reading his journal…The trail was well marked and the guidebooks are pretty much on track…since there has been talk about some reroutes…there is the ct website and you can locate that information…Water was plentiful and camping spots were sometimes hard to find if you are looking for flat areas…other than that feel free to email me…Good Luck and have fun!

They do sell a very good map book with coordinates included. We used this instead of bring a dozen different maps. The maps are almost as good as topo’s but when you add the coordinates to the package it’s a very good reference to have.
