Newbie here and been surfing around. For the past year ive had a passion for long distance hikes like az trail. And am very interested in doing it but am afraid due to lack of experience. And am asking around the community with people who might be able to give help advice and tips on how I can accomplish a long distance thru hike like the az trail. Was wondering if anyone might be able to help with some of these issues like how to prepare, what I’ll do for food and water along the way and gear, ect. Any help You can give me I’d be truly greatly for thx in advance and peace be with you also srry if this has been brought up before

Parts of the AZT (southern deserts) might be tough teacher, though other parts (northern forests) are fairly benign. If you live in AZ, start getting experience with long days and overnighters in the desert, including food and water logistics. There are stretches where you walk over 30 miles, possibly 40 depending on season and luck, between dependable water sources.

There are some pretty good books and websites dealing with light weight packing now. An easy web search will show plenty. You can also get involved with trail orgs like the ATA and meet the trail people. The annual Rendezvous at Mormon Lake is coming up next month. Maybe we’ll see you there.
