No-cook breakfast

Any good no cook breakfast ideas out there? I’d like to find something more calorie dense than most cereal bar/pop tart items.

I ate a lot of full-fat milk powder with granola/raisin bran/Corn-pops, etc with dried fruit often mixed in.

I’ve been eating Granola Cereal. I buy a box, and just keep the pouch that comes in the box. A pound goes a long way, but its filling and loaded with calories and tastes pretty good, I sometimes add water in a cup but dry is ok.

Homemade cookies, and I mean BIG homemade cookies, stuffed full of all sorts of calorific goodies like crisco, brown sugar, white sugar, eggs, choc chips, dried fruit, nuts etc. I have a recipe if you want to email me directly, they’re called the “28 mile trail cookies”, Grizzly Adam can vouch for them. They go down nicely with a hot chocolate. The other great thing is that they only take 10 minutes to mix and another 13 minutes to bake!

Cheers

The following is an extract from Grizzly Adams’s 2004 Trailjournal, I’m sure he won’t mind me using it.

“We stopped for another break not long before we entered the Notch. I pulled out my secret weapon. I’d been saving it all day because I knew I’d need it pretty soon. Ross has created a secret weapon. A weapon that is sure to get any hiker through any day. Ross has made a sweet concoction called the “28-mile cookie.” I’m not exactly sure what is in them, but it is something to the tune of: oatmeal, peanut butter, chocolate chips, coconut, dried cranberries, pecans, and other assorted bits and pieces. Ross spoke highly of them when he was making them last night, but I was a little hesitant. I rationed out a few for the hike. I took my first bite and knew that I didn’t bring enough of these things. Holy crap. These cookies are (pick one of the following adjectives) —amazing, bizarre, boss, curious, darb, exceptional, fab, fantastic, flash, gnarly, heavy, inconceivable, incredible, marvelous, odd, outstanding, particular, peculiar, phenomenal, primo, rare, remarkable, singular, some, special, strange, stupendous, surprising, terrific, tough, uncommon, unfamiliar, unheard-of, unimaginable, unique, unprecedented, unthinkable, unusual, unwonted, weird, wicked, wonderful, zero cool”

I’m kinda addicted to Mountain House Raspberry Crumble and Backpacker’s Pantry Peaches and Cream Pie. When I do splurge for them, I’ll consume less than half after dinner (I hike solo) and save the rest for breakfast.

Also, for weight saving calories (I compromise for comfort -with a lightweight tent, sleeping pad, white gas stove and a couple books, 15 days unsupplied is about my personal Sierra wight limit)freeze dried fruit and even freeze dried ice cream are enough to get me going.

Do all the break camp chores then chow down and use camp water for clean up.

I use CIB loaded with instant coffee; Sunbelt Granola (same company that makes Little Debbies) with powdered milk ( they make several types - I like the Bannana nut crunch best, but all are good - cheap too); and Bon Appetit danish’s. The Bon Appetit’s rule. They have over 800 calories each and come in Bearclaw, mixed berry, apple, & blueberry. Can be found at gas station mini- marts & some grocery stores.
