I plan on resuming my section hike from NOC northward. What is the best(closest, etc) airport to fly into. I’m coming from Louisiana. Any suggestions on shuttles to get from the airport to the trail at NOC? All help appreciated.

Asheville is much easier than knoxville to get to the NOC. plus, there is a great outfitter , “Diamond Brand” just one exit down I-26 in the Mountian Home-Fletcher area. but it may be cheaper to fly into knoxville, as the airport is probably bigger with more flights. It may be cheaper to fly into atlanta, and drive up from there up through hiwasee and over to franklin and then to the NOC. but it will take longer.

the good folks at the hike inn at fontana dam. They can tell you the best place to come in to and will even come get ya and drop you off at the trailhead. They do this for a living in addition to the motel so there is a charge, but you won’t meet any nicer people.

Papa John is right. I have used the owners from the Hike Inn before and was very happy with their service and prices.
