Hello everyone!
I’ll be in Philly on april-may 2011 in my friend’s family. She’s coming back home on may 4th and I’ll stay another 10 days till may 14th.
I want to use that chance to try a nice part of the Appalachian trail there.
What is a good (prefer mountains)part of the Appalachian trail in this area at these time of year. I need a one-week-trail there.

Thank you very much!

Port Clinton to Harper’s Ferry would be a nice 1 week trek and it is as near to Philly as you can get.

Have fun!

Thank you very much, but what is this part like? is it mountained? if anyone has a little info about this part, I’ll be glad to have some, about accommodation, food, water, ice on this time of year etc…

Dor, it’s one of the easiest part of the entire AT. Tons of road crossings and by AT standards, somewhat flat. You’ll deal with Rocks during your first part of that leg. Your hardest climb will be coming out of Duncannon.

However, Port clinton to Harpers Ferry is quite a distance to cover in a week without any trail legs, it’s unrealistic to be honest. Duncannon to Harpers Ferry is more realistic and Duncannon is easy enough to get to. Plus you can stay at the Doyle the night before your hike and chat with many other hikers…

Try Port Clinton to Delaware Water Gap. Its about 75 miles. The Pinnacle is the best view on the PA AT. You have a chance to stay in the Jailhouse Hostel in Palmerton and then do the Lehigh Gap climb out of Palmerton. Finish up at Delaware Water Gap and stay in the Church of the Mountain Hostel in DWG.

We did this in April 2006. Had mostly good weather. It took us nine days, but we are slow hikers.
