I first read about the National Park Service’s proposal to build a new road through 30 miles of Great Smoky Mountains National in ATC News, about two issues ago. Since then I’ve heard stories about it on NPR and read about it at various on-line sites. If you’re interested, a search of “North Shore Road Project” will lead you to a plethora of information. To me, it sounds like bad news: bad for the Trail, bad for the birds, the water, and the environment. The Park Service is now through April 7th accepting comments on whether or not to build this road. Take a few minutes to find out more, then write or email your opinions.
