I am planning to do a PCT thru in 2015 but i don’t want to enter canada when i arrive at Monument 78, my question is.
whatis the best/easiest way to leave the northern terminus without entering canada.
I have everything figured out except this last piece.

There is a road and campground 30 or so miles from the border at Harts Pass. Just hike up to the border, then return to Harts Pass, either on the PCT or on the alternate trail along the Pasaytan River, and hitch a ride to Mazama, the nearest town. From there you can hitch to someplace with bus or train service.

Another way to do it is to go back just a few miles and head west on the Pacific Northwest Trail to Ross Lake, then south on the Ross Lake Trail to Hwy. 20. You get to see some different, nice scenery, and you come out to the main highway for an easier hitch.
Slightly longer. The only real drawback though is you don’t get the fun of running into thru-hikers going the opposite direction as you.
