I didnt know touching the sign was considered bad luck.
The article brought back some good memories though.

Actually, I think most people do. We don’t need another silly superstition in the world so I hope people will ignore the “bad luck” idea that some knucklehead made up.

What could be better “luck” than touching THE sign at the end of a great hike?

On the White Blaze discussion of the article there is an explanation for not touching the sign - not a real supersition, just one hiker’s view that by touching the sign, you’ll have to go back to the ‘money world’. I understand wanting to avoid that - but unfortunately for most of us, reaching Katahdin does mean having to go back to the other reality.

It was a good article.
