I have heard while out hiking that there is a rock formation called: “The Old Man Of The Mountain”, somewhere out on the PCT? Is this correct? Any pictures out there?

DSD - There WAS a rock formation called “The Old man of the Mountain” in the White Mountains of NH. The structure resembled that of a man’s face. A few years ago - this structure came crashing down. There were a few suggestions to rebuild - but those suggestions fell through. Hope this helps.

Hey thanks Ghost,
After chatting with some friends too it sounds like this is the only ‘Old Man’ that was out there. Unless there are some other PCTers that can add to this with their own comments on a PCT ‘Old Man’. Too bad about the NH ‘Old Man’…I love unusual rock formations. I wonder too what else folks may have seen on their treks that fits in the ‘unusual rock’ category??

There is a formation right outside of Warner Springs on the PCT called (I think) Eagle Rocks that looks very uncannily like an eagle spreading its wings. Pretty awesome!

look on the back of the New hampshire quarter, if you saved any of the special state quarters…it has the profile of “the old man” on the back as a representation of the state. It was very ironic that the new hampshire quarter with that stamping on it came out right about the same time as the collapse…:oh
