Oregon Section Hiking - Best Time

Good Morning All,

I am planning on taking a two week section hike of the PCT in Oregon. I am planning on starting near Ashland and finishing at Willamette Pass. I have heard that the last week of July or first week of August is the sweet spot (less bugs but still plenty of water) for Oregon. I was hoping that there are a few folks out there who would share their experiences. I have a open schedule and could start even later in August.

Thanks in advance for the comments.

I would even lean towards September or late August if you need to start classes. Less people, probably none to very little mosquitoes, wonderful weather. Enjoy!

Watch the snowpack info at Postholer.com . If Oregon has a low snow year, your time frame sounds right, but on an average or high year i think you’d be better off later.

The last week of July and fist few days of Aug. can be very buggy. I would go anytime after the first week of Aug.
