We are starting to plan this year’s PCT section hike and have decided to head for Oregon since we have family there. Can anyone tell me the absolutely best time to hike Oregon? Not too hot, enough water, and NO skeeters!! Thanks for your help.

I’ve heard July is the worst for skeeters. I’m planning on the month of August as “best” for me this year.

It depends on the snowpack. Oregon got a lot of snow in 2008, and the mosquitos were hellish in early August. The later you go though, the higher % chance of rain yet less flowing water. There is no perfect time really.

Thanks for the info. We are leaning towards August or end of July. Will keep an eye on the snow amounts in the next few months.

I would go for mid-August to mid-September. As folks said the bugs can get bad in June/July. However, in September the weather typically holds and would be a great time to be on Mount Jefferson and Hood due to less crowds.

Well it will depend if we get ant more snow this year but the way it looks now if you are ok with some snow you may want to start a NoBo in June if not wait till Sept and maybe do a SoBo as you could start as the Trail Days event ends at Cascade locks.
