Ouachita Trail (Arkansas)

Has anyone out there thru-hiked the Ouachita Trail in Oklahoma and Arkansas? I have Tim Earnst’s guide and have walked the western most 50 miles with a group of boy scouts in the past. However, I am contemplating a thru-hike of the 223 mile trail this spring. My main concerns are re-supply. From analysing the trail crossings it seems that there are no towns closer than 5 miles and since so few people hike the trail rides tend to be scarce as I understand. Anyone out ther have any experiences or suggestions.

Thanks!!!

I read a journal last year from two guys that hiked it. Re-supply was a little hard as I recall. For the life of me I can’t remember where I read it. I think it was a Google search; just some guy’s home page hikes, not on a major site and I think it was way down the hit list. Try looking for some journals.

In reponse to an email (my reply is not working), I will post a journal and pics sometime after I am done. I plan to start on May 8th or 9th and finish by the 26th or so. I have found a shuttle provider @ www.ycitymountaininn.com they will provide shuttles for the middle section and give hikers or mt bikers a much needed chance to shower and resupply. I am still in the planning stages so any other suggestions would be greatly apreciated.
