Just a thought…(overly simplified, not accounting for body weight, elevation changes, and a huge list of other factors)

5280 ft/mile (x) 12in/ft (/) 1 step/18" (x) 1oz/step (x) 1lb/16oz = 220 pds/mile/ounce.

Hiking the AT 2172.2 miles (x) 220 lbs/mile = 477884 pounds carried on your back, or 238.9 tons. Thats 14.9 tons/oz.

Just thoughts about shaving pack weight, maybe a little incentive. Hope my post-finals math isn;t wrong, for all I know I was using dimensions for PMOY to do this…If it is, I am sure to be blasted here…Now off to the bar

Hey Ferret, that’s too much math to think about this time of night! Just did some of my own.

1.5oz + 1.5oz + 1.5oz = Walkin home!

Take care out there.

Ferret have you ever thought of this. Each time one takes a dump they lose an average 6.2 ounces. Multiply that by the number of days in your life, and you weight nothing. Everyone’s anti-matter.

The ounces would cancel out, leaving only pounds per mile.

Now if we could get the pounds to cancel out, leaving only miles, we’d have a marketable scam.

hey, i did this after a 5 hour exam followed by 5 or 6 of cityslickers 1.5oz’ers of a good stiff Bourbon (Knob Creek if I remember, but hey, after a while, couldn’t tell you). Thankfully I planned ahead, as I live at 4500 and my bar is at 4620, makes it easy to walk or even crawl home. :cheers

As for UGH’s anti-matter Star Trek dumps, I will leave that to him and Shatner. Yes, the ounces cancel, but since it is the reference, it is fair to add as a second denominator otherwise the 220#/mile has no meaning to reference to. But who cares…

I managed to drop about 48 ounces off my base weight by switching from my (although I loved it) Bora 80 to a ULA P2 pack. And right now I don’t care how many pds/mile that comes out to, I’m too hung over
