Purcahse the 3 guidebooks from Wilderness Press (SoCal, NoCal, Or/Wash) and the databook. Everything you need to know is there.

That said, many people like Yogi’s Guidebook which doesn’t replace the wilderness press books but rather supplements it with additional info. It gives nice information on resupplying in various towns as well as help in planning your hike.

There are maps included with the Wilderness Press books and there are additional maps online at hikertrash.net and postholer that you can print. The only additional maps you may consider purchasing are the John Muir Trail Map Pack by Tom Harrison. If you hike the southern Sierra while there is still snow on the ground (likely in most years), you will appreciate the additional detail.
