Looks decent, but I have no experiance with Arc’Teryx bags.

As far as size goes, your gear will dictate what size pack you need. I reccomend buying all your other equipment first, take it into your local outfitter and find out what pack fits your equipment and your body. If you must buy the pack before everything else, most outfitters have pillows and bags of beans to simulate weight and bulk. Make sure you wear the pack around for a while (while you browse), you want the pack to feel comfortable with the load that you plan on carrying!

For the size/weight, 2990 cu seems a little small to me for being 5 lbs 4 ounces.

I loved my Osprey Aether 75 pack. They make a smaller one than I used (Aether 60) which is a 3700 cu pack and weighs only 3 lbs 4 ounces. I thought it was a very comfortable pack and highly recommend it. http://www.ospreypacks.com/aether60.html

I was at my local outdoor store today and absolutely fell in love with the Osprey Luna 75, just because of the helpful back design. it’s 4500 cu, does that sound about right?

I used a 4300 cu pack that was overloaded at first. For most the trail I took the lid off and it worked great for space. For the 100 mile wilderness I added the lid back and the extra food filled it to capasity again. I packed heavy so I cant see anything over 4500 being neccessary.

Last year people carried an Aether 80 litre, and some traded
in for the Aether 60 litre(about 4000 cu. in.).
If your bag is big, you’ll carry enough gear/weight to fill it.
3500-4500 cu in. is about right.

I tried on an aether, and then the luna 75. It’s strong enough for a man, but definately built for a woman! ba-dum chhhhh! I’m soooo funny  Anyway, I have a bad back, and the design of the Luna is INCREDIBLE. I fell in love with it, so I think that’s what I’m going to go with.

The new Gregory Forester is lighter and larger that last year’s model. You might check it out, too.

Hiked the AT with the Gregory Shasta in 2001. Great pack, comfortable suspension but too large at 5400 cu in. Too tempting to rationalize taking stuff you don’t really need. Downsized to the Gregory Reality (medium) for my 2003 thru. At around 4300 cu in it’s just perfect for all my clothing and gear. Still a little heavier than I’d like a pack to be but it’s comfortable and carries my 32 lbs well
