Paddler's Pub - Appalachian Trail

Last weekend I did a section hike in the Hot Springs, NC area with two friends, Joan and Larry.

Paddler’s Pub, a local burger joint in the middle of town was gone! All that remained was a cement slab.

What happened?

That’s sad news Bruce. Is there another pub in town to take its place? I don’t remember one when I passed that way back in '04.

It seems amazing to me that a pub can close in a decent sized place like Hot Springs. I’m from England where a community like that would probably support at least 3 pubs. I don’t really understand it.

Let’s hope its resurrected for my 2014 historic retread of the AT.

You are all wrong, the owner of the Pub died in a single car crash a year or so ago. Everyone was saddened.

I still remember what I ordered for there. 2 cheese burgers and fries, dozen hot wings, and a pitcher of Guinness.

This ridiculous commentary is exactly what you get on a forum with such lax “log in” procedures. Everyone’s up in the peanut gallery. It’s just a shame that the long distance hiking community still aren’t demanding a better online meeting place.
