In the first week of August SOBO from Allens Gap to Hot Springs, one of our party thought he saw a black panther about half through the hike. NC officials said there were none in the area. Has anyone else seen one?

Havent seen a panther in this area, but about 5 years ago I did see a lynx in this area. Im sure it was a lynx and not a bobcat, so that was cool. It was about 2am driving to the TH when we saw it, as they are nocturnal.

The Blank Panthers are not extinct. They were on the endanged list back in the 70’s but never folded. Huey P. Newton was able to keep the group strong. His wife is still working for them. But I agree with the rest, I don’t think they hang around North Carolina.

I knew panthers weren’t extinct, but I didn’t even realize that they enhabited this area of the world! You learn something new everyday.

I can’t speak for N.C. but we have panthers here in Florida. On a hike in Highland Hammock State Park here in central Florida I had the good fortune to even have seen one.
:cheers
