I want to hike all of Wyoming this Summer. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I could park a car for a month by the trail at the Colorado/Wyoming border? Susie

The little old mining town on the Wyoming side is quite friendly; I camped at the mine museum picnic shelter & the others stayed cheap at a motel... we had to walk over to Riverside? to restaureat & shop at the crossroads shop & they had fancy camping there down by the river; so one of the above mentioned places/people would probly let you park for free or a small fee & shuttle you up to trail as the motel owner did for us. You might want to leapfrog, hiking a section then hitching back from Rawlins to move your car up there then hitching back from Lander to move your car up there???

Gingerbreadman is right. The town is called Encampment and is about 15 miles from the trail. There is a nice motel and the owner of the restaurant next door gave us a ride up to the trail. The section north from Battle Pass is one of the most scenic on the trail with lots of animal sightings. Enjoy, Wyoming was my favorite state!
Robocop
Robocop, thank you for the tremendous compliment of Wyoming. Most people snicker at the Cowboy State.
Ms. Burns you’re a hardy sould for wanting anything to do with Southern Wyoming. Watch out for those raptors, some of them could carry a lineman off.
I don’t know the trail in Southern Wyoming but knowing a bit about Wyoming I would indeed give someone in Encampment a call. Beyond that I’d call the Carbon County Sherrifs and get their reccomendations.
If you come off the trail at Union or Togwotee I could possibly help you out with a ride, either into Dubois or back to the Trailhead if I couldn’t time that right. I’m Double Cabin at Backpacker.com.
Whatever you do have a great trip,
John

West Yellowstone is a great town to finish up at, although getting there in 2004 (leaving there for me) along the park’s (W. Border trail) was quite insane, as the fire had completely obliterated it & I was lucky to find a tribe of native americans cutting teepee poles on their way to celebrate their victory at Custer’s Last Stand national park… they gave me water, as the volcanic west side of the park is dry as the Australian outback, even after a rain & they admired my 'walkabout" … I gave em a bear patch I had bought in trade… there’s good IMAX movies in WY like the Lewis & Clark one or Imax overview of the park; great restaurants & supermarkets for resupply if you happen to leave there going south; also, old Faithful Inn has a good resupply store with snacks & backpack food & showers at the inn; but no camping in the vicinity!
W.Y. had shuttles about 3x/ week up to Bozeman, where you could get a bus to Lander (Wind River Trailways or something) & Bozeman where I resupplied for most of Montana & Wyoming had a great hostel close to all the necessities like a Health Coop & several outdoor shops & live music at the “leaf n bean” & movies & rafting trips.
