Anyone know if you can leave a vehicle at Newfound Gap and if so for how long? I got off there a few weeks back and am thinking about taking off from there and getting shuttle back from Hot Srings.

parked there several times for 2 to 3 day trips. never had any problems. might want to check with the park service if you plan on leaving it for an extended peroid of time.

I agree with cjg … a few days is no big deal, but I do know people who have had their cars broken into there. Check with the local outfitter … Happy Hiker in Gatlinburg … they may have an idea. I’m local and can help if the timing is right … email me.

I had my vehicle left there the night before I was due to arrive there back in 1999 and found mine and 3 others with windows broken out and our things all stolen. The deputy was there when I arrived. He was still filling out the paperwork. Huge inconvience while on vacation having to get a window replaced and all my stuff gone. They said it happens all the time. They patrol a couple times a night, but it still happens. Being on the border, neither wants to fine anything wrong. They said if it were not for my alarm going off, they would not have noticed. Most of the glass was inside the vehicle. I had gotten dropped off at Hwy 40 and hiked 3 days and 2 nights. Get a shuttle and know how much in advance. Break in’s prices are high! Good luck and I agree that Happy Hiker will be a good help.

Thanks all, that’s the kind of feedback that helps. Sounds worse that 19E Hikerman. I’ll try parking in Hot Springs and getting a lift from there to Newfound Gap.
