Anybody know the situation at Sam’s Gap (I-26) with regard to parking? I’m looking to do a weekender to Erwin. All info greatly appreciated

The place is real busy could be a problem. We took our car
to Erwin and let Miss Janet shuttle us back, no problem and no worry.
Swamp Dawg
SWAMP DAWG
Parking is a little tough there. We parked off to the side of the trucker inspection area, which appeared to be a self-inspection point before the big hill. This was last fall. There is a lot of construction in that area. We were tempted to park across from the inspection spot, as there was room there, but we were concerned about being in the way of construction vehicles. Swamp Dawg’s suggestion would be the best way to go, there are a number of parking places near Erwin, most with a fee though. That’s a nice easy section of trail with an outstanding view (Bald Mountain?).
Alligator
We parked there (the area Alligator described) in fall of '01 for an overnight honeymoon trip up Big Bald. No problems, but I have to admit I was nervous about leaving my vehicle there. Next time I’m going to call Ms. Janet.
