I was much saddened to hear of the recent untimely death of the owner of Standing Bear Hostel, Curtis. SBH is near the northern exit of the trail from Smoky Mountain National Park. Curtis was a good friend to me and thousands of hikers over the years. He will be sorely missed.

We had the pleasure of being hosted by Curtis on two occasions. We are saddened to hear the news. He was a real Friend of the Trail and the hikers on it.

Sorry to hear about Curtis. Stayed at SB three times over the years. He always bent over backwards to help hikers out. I remember a nice ice cream run to the general store in 2009. He will be missed. NedtheFed

Stayed at SB in 2013 when heavy snow fell, my favorite hostel,nice guy...I liked their set up
