Let us see. At least $200 for Depends, which you’ll need so you can continue your habit of going to the bathrrom inside your sleeping bag. $150 for a new set of pearls so you can display your fetish for all things Barbara Bush. At least $100 for a Ralph Lauren pullover to impress the ladi—oops I mean “hikers”. A calling card that lets you call those special 1-900-numbers you seemed addicted to on the AT. And last but not least, $35 for a 2004 Dictionary of American Slang so you can continue your reign as the most vulgar man in America. Oh yeah, maybe $4000 for hiking stuff and food. Happy trails.

than the AT because there are fewer hostels and town stops. But, I guess, like anything, it’s as cheap as you make it. Wife Sisu and I are scrimping and saving for our thru next year and will budget according to whatever we end up with around the end of April.

True, there are fewer town stops on the PCT. But, the motels are more expensive than on the AT. I also found that on the PCT I ate WAY MORE both in town and on the trail than I ever did on the AT.

Also, on the PCT, hikers don’t usually “sneak” other hikers into motel rooms in order to save the extra person charge.

Between South Lake Tahoe CA and Cascade Locks OR (1063 miles) there aren’t many towns where you will stay in a motel. Maybe Sierra City CA, maybe Dunsmuir CA. In Ashland OR, most hikers stay at the hostel. So you won’t be spending much money on lodging for about two months. Be sure to save your money. When you get to Washington, you’ll be in motels for four town stops in a row: White Pass, Snoqualmie, Skykomish, and Stehekin. Lodging in Washington is not cheap, and it rains in Washington. You WILL want to stay in town to dry out. Save your money.

Yogis right ,in fact, sneaking people into hotel rooms may NOT be cool on the PCT. Because of 3 eagles in o1 some hotels will not even rent to hikers anymore. I have seen some ATers however close every bar on the trail including Keneddy Mdws… Just remember you newies want us oldies to give you the correct ANSWER to whatever your querry…There is no ONE answer to any of your ?s just various opinions to all ?s.:cheers
