Premature Degenerative Osteoarthritis.
I have high arches and joints that are old and overworked. I just got custom orthotics last week, hopefully that will work. If not, my doctor said I’ll be “in a cast for 6 weeks”.

Sorry to hear about that. I’m sending some healing energy your way.
Remember those Doc’s don’t always know what they’re talking about.
Salud!

To second what Yogi said - I think it is well worth going to ADZ a year before you hike. I went last year, preparing for a 2005 hike, and made some major changes to my gear (new backpack, new tarp tent, new stove). I thought it was well worthwhile - saved a few pounds of pack weight.

Im on the trail in 06 come hell or high water. It’s on my mind almost daily. Every time I leave work to walk home I have to fight the urge to turn south and just keep walking. My poor girlfriend is going to cram the bathtub plug into my word-hole if she hears one more trail story.
I had a bit more to say, but I think I’ll start a new thread on it.
Best of luck with your feet Yogi!

I’ve been browsing through the PCT forum for an hour now, absorbing all the good information. My husband, Brave, and I are doing the Colorado Trail this summer and the PCT in '06. We’ll be leaving Colorado for San Diego a year from today. Sounds like we’ll be in experienced company!
