I was just wondering if the PCT data book is worth taking along during a hike of the JMT. I have the JMT maps and “Guide to the John Muir Trail” book. Is this enough?
Thanks to everyone who has far more knowledge than I.

I wouldn’t take it. The main use of the data book is to simplify figuring out where water sources are located - especially the long dry stretches. That isn’t an issue on the JMT.

Any one of the three would probably be fine, but I don’t think you need them all. The data book might be helpful to give you a better sense of where you are at all times, but certainly isn’t necessary for finding the trail (and remember, the JMT and PCT diverge between Red’s Meadow and 1000 Island Lake). Same with the guidebook, except in a few places where the trail is confusing (such as Red’s Meadow). Last time I brought both the maps and the a photocopy of selected guidebook pages. This time I will just bring the maps, maybe with the mileage summary from the guidebook.
