How many people finished the PCT this year? It seems like winter caught a few more thruhikers by surprise with it’s early appearance this year. Any stats or estimates out there?

Maybe the PCTA could post the statistics like the AT does?

Hi Goat. Was actually wondering today if YOU made it. I think you were the last serious nobo I met. PCT just north of Snoqualmie still had over two feet of snow at upper elevations on 10/11. Forecast not lookin’ so hot for upcoming week- plenty more snow on its way. (Hope the rest of your trip went well).

Yeah. It seems that this year, we are like 23 who pass by Ross lake. And, it seems that me (stomp’er), Axe and Moose have been the last ones to make it to Canada, by the reroute. Unfortunately, not by the monument 78. It was ok, but I am very sad about that winter that came so early. I don’t understand the weather, there was no hurry. Damn! Oh, and by the way, I lost my journal in Stehiken, with all my papers things (and addresses of all). So, here’s my e-mail

I was in the main kickoff pack from the start, and surrounded by several people thru the Sierras. I tried to keep a record of every thru-hiker i met in my journal. I met approx. 150 thru’s this year and I’m not sure on some people but it seems almost exactly 50 % finished.

I did not finish…
I had some bad luck (septic shock from a blister) and was off trail a while. I skipped ahead to have SOME sort of chance of getting it all done…but got snowed out of Washington. I went back down to finish California and got a fair amount of snow there (I started at Carson Pass and was on the I-80 to Sierra city stretch when the SECOND storm hit).

I could have gotten my ice axe and some crampons, but I decided that being solo, the risk had gotten too high. I am home, now, trying to figure out how I can possibly do this again.
