hello,

we are a 22-24 year old couple. We want to hike 2 different sections of the pct in california in august , each section 4-6 days (i mean two different trails in two different backpacking trips of 4-6 days). we are in pretty good shape and experienced (both of us are annapurna “grads” and the man has much more experience than that)
which 2 sections of the pct are the best?
Is there a book with detailed information about camping sites, water points, resupply etc? a website is better…

thank you very much

Hike from Horseshoe Meadow to Muir Ranch and then Muir Ranch to Reds Meadow

Unbreakable

Sonora Pass to Echo Lake near South Lake Tahoe

A section in the Marble Mountains would be good northwest of Shasta City.

A portion of the John Muir Trail which is often the same trail as the PCT would have the most amazing alpine hiking like Unbreakable suggests especially if you can do a continuous 10 day trip.

This will take you over Bishop Pass through Dusy Basin to LeConte Meadow, then the JMT/PCT over Muir Pass to Piute Creek. I’d go a little further and hit Blayney Hot Springs near Muir Trail Ranch, then back to Piute Creek, up through Humphrey’s Basin and over Piute Pass to North Lake. Great section of trail! That could take 4-6 days. I also liked the loop going north on the PCT from Cottonwood Pass to Wallace Creek and heading down the Kern River canyon and looping back to Trail Pass. There is another hot springs on this loop, too…
