PCT Forums - Pacific Crest Trail

I have noticed that there really isn’t an active user forum for the PCT that compares to trailforums or whiteblaze. There is PCT-L, that I recieve as a daily digest but it very unorganized and awkward in its layout. Does anyone know of a good site with a PCT forum on it that is relatively active? Tried pcthiker.com and it is slower than this place.

Thanks!

Ganj,

All you need to know about the PCT can be found on the AT site. Wanna know why? THE PCT IS THE NEW AT!!! Heard that on the trail this weekend.

Your welcome!

What trail did you hear that on?

It was a joke between me and Ganj who hike MD last weekend. But seriously, there is a point to be made. The AT, which I have been on for at least two months 5 of the last 7 years has changed for the worse. This year was horrendous. I hiked from Springer to CT, and finally go off cos I wasn’t feeling the love. There were defintely wonderful people out there, but the number of freaks, psychos, thieves and just-in-general selfish people out there was just too much for me. I believe that with the rise in popularity of the PCT and its still relatively small number of thruhikers that the PCT will become what the AT was in the late 90’s, a haven of sorts for fun-loving respectful folks looking to get back to nature for a while. Thus, the PCT is the new AT.

I agree, the PCT-L digest format is hard to follow. But, PCT-L has a weath of information. It really is a good list. Instead of sorting out the digest email each day, do one of two things:

(1) change your subscription to get individual emails for every post. BUT, create a new email account for this. That way, the new email account has ONLY PCT-L emails on it, and they will come in chronoligically.

(2) Keep your digest subscription, but go to the list site to view posts. To get there:
go to www.pcta.org
click on trip planning
click on resources
click on email forum
click on forum archives
click on new archives
click on the month-date you want to view.

Yatzee-

The reason why I aasked is because, after hiking it this year, I was shocked at how incomparable the two paths are in nearly every dimension. I was fairly certain that you must have heard that on the AT, and it looks like I was right. I walked north from Belden, CA, to the Oregon border 500 miles approx., without seeing ONE other NOBO thruhiker. Can you imagine that on the AT, during ANY time of year? Besides, I heard this year saw less thru’s than in previous years. Who knows, who cares, I guess. I just thought it was a funny thing to say, what you did. Start off during mid-May from Campo and see for yourself how that comparison holds true. Take it easy and good walking my friend.:happy

Aye, the new AT. Until 2013 when the CDT takes that role.

Yogi- Thanks for the info. I will try it that way, but was afraid that the PCT-L is the primary forum for planning.

The advantage of PCT-L is that it really has a LOT of thruhikers and section hikers on it. They really do speak with the voice of experience. There are other places that have pct forums, but none are very active.
