Hey does anyone know of GPS waypoints available for down load for the PCT? I remember Chance was plotting them out in 2004 dont know if they are available?? I want to add waypoints for SOCAl into my GPS to play around with for a section hike in April.
thanks!

www.morethanamile.com has PCT map CDs with a GPS waypoints file for a point every mile or so. My experience was that these were close to the trail, but usually c. 300ft out, sometime more (a mile was the record). Good enough to keep you in the right direction, but not to get you actually on the trail.

There might be a way to reverse engineer the kmz file from google earth, but I don’t know how… Any google earth pros around?

I am also really interested in this.

Just last weekend I created a file for google earth that mapped my 2005 thru-hike. It was really great to be able to do a virtual fly-by of the entire trail. Unfortunately though, I only recorded gps coordinates once per day. I would be happy to put together a file for Google Earth, if someone out there has a full set of data points to send me…

Thanks,

the file for the whole PCT is here:

I think there’s a way to reverse engineer these through gpsu (www.gpsu.co.uk) which can take google earth files in and spit gps files out, but I haven’t tried.

GPS Babel http://www.gpsbabel.org/ will convert kml files. Here is a post I did on finding GPS data online…
