PCT maps on CD - Pacific Crest Trail

hey, has anyone ever actually printed out and used the morethanamile.com maps. we were wondering stuff like how much it might cost to print and if they were that much better than the black and white maps that are crammed into the guidebooks, etc. we like the idea of the 1:24,000 scale of the USGS maps, but don’t want to spend a gazillion dollars printing them.

My only point of reference is the CDT maps. Jonathan’s CD has about 250 maps for the CDT. A bunch of us got together and had about 10 sets printed at the same time. We got a quantity discount for having so many printed, and it still cost each of us around $130 to print them on good quality paper with ink that would not bleed if it got wet. We saved weight by printing the maps on both sides of the paper. I haven’t seen the PCT map CD, so I don’t know how many maps there are. I would guess that you would spend less money on maps if you simply bought the three Guidebooks and used the Guidebook maps.

Yogi- Did you pay $130 for each set or $130 for ten sets total?

Printing the CDT maps cost me slightly more than 35$ on my HP printer and would have cost even less had I used non brand ink. I used regular paper and didn’t change the ink cartridge when I run out of black and yellow and the maps were still readable. Water Proof paper is probebly hevier and definetly more expensive, and I just kept my maps in ziplocks and almost never got them wet.

In any case - no real point in printing the maps of the p.c.t. as the guidebooks and the maps on them are nothing less than superb.
