Hi i was wandering if anyone had any knowledge regarding MT San Jacinto. I was looking to do a two day hike up there over a weekend. I did 600 miles on the A.T but never got to finish it because i recently joined the United States Marine Corps so i really never have time to get out on the trail but now that I am stationed across the country in California i wanted to check out PCT and i figured why not bang out Mt San Jacinto. I’m at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base.I was looking to Drive up there for a weekend don’t really know where to start or where I could leave my car and merge on the PCT that heads up Mount San Jacinto. Any information would be much appreciated

BearmanPig, There a re a couple of choices.

  1. Drive to Idyllwild, leave your car at Humber Park, and go up (I think) Devils Slide Trail to intersect the PCT.
  2. Leave your car at the PCT trailhead on hwy 74, near hwy 371. There’s a horse trailer parking lot there. Hike north for 20 miles or so to Mt. SJ.
  3. Drive to Palm Springs, take the gondola to the top of San Jac and hike back down going north towards town of
White Water. Hitch back to Palm Springs.

#2 might be your best bet. Carry plenty of water and have fun.

San Jacinto has its own forum at www.mtsanjacinto.info . Lots of regulars there that can help.
