Has anyone tried the five pound pancake challenge at the Seiad Cafe on the PCT?

The Seiad Cafe was voted one of the top 10 places in the U.S to “pig out” because of the pancakes of course.
I saw this on the Travel channel a few months ago.

I understand that lots of folks have “tried” the Pancake Challenge at the Seiad Cafe, but One Gallon(PCT '05) actually won it last year.

When I interviewed the previous owner of the place last year, he said that only 9 have done it in 19 years. Last year, the new owner was apparently making the cakes a little smaller. One Gallon, stud that he is, would have none of that. So, he went next door to the store (where the cafe’s previous owner now works) and asked that he cook them up to previous specs. He did and the rest is history. www.walkpct.com

when i hiked in 2005, i attempted it and failed with misery seeping out of most of my pores. :frowning:

i have to say that even if the pancakes were edible it would have still been a grand feat to accomplish, but the pancakes were like 10 pound flour frisbees. i think the part that really made me not want to consume anymore is when i continuously kept hitting pockets of raw runny pancake batter. i also had the original owner cook em up, and maybe he was just having an off day but those things were not pancakes.

im not making any excuses here, because like i said before, even if they were edible i have my doubts weather i would have been able to eat that much anyways.

it did make for awesome pictures though!!!

have a great day everybody!
