PCT traditions?

Being new to the PCT, I have a question for all those more knowledgable in the ways of a PCT thru-hike. On the AT, it is customary to pick up a small stone at Springer Mountain in Georgia and then deposit it on the cairn of Mt. Katahdin in Maine. Is there a PCT tradition like this? Thanks - Postcard

oh yeah, you find as many reasonable sized rocks as you can and keep sneeking them in other peoples packs without them knowing about it. that is way funner than carrying it yourself the whole way!!! :tongue

    or you could try and sneak a rattlesnake from california into canada to corrupt their natural balance as far as animals go.

have a great day.

No PCT thru hikers are too busy trying to keep they’re total pack weights below twenty five pounds so they’re ULA hip belts don’t break and they can compete with eachother to see who can average 30’s. F carrying rocks. And fun traditions, that might require a zero day.

That was pretty funny, Bill

3 of us have set up 10 whiskey caches between the border and Yosemite. The idea is we toast each other on the passes…ok, and maybe some other spots too. This tradition is much more fun then rocks and we will join with you…just carry some Knob Creek, oh, and you need an official shot glass…that is about the only rule. So Ultralighters just have to stand around and watch…

Hey Bubble Toes…glad I could spread some smiles along the trail. This year, starting April 26th, I’m going to let the west coast be the inspiration, but I don’t believe there are “registers” like the AT. However, My trailjournal is already up and being silly. Thanks again for the kind words. - Postcard

Very unofficial traditions, but…

  • The PCT flag. It should be at KO this year I hope. A little orange flag that hikers take turns carrying up the trail. Carry it, sign your name, pass it on.

  • The pink poles. A pair of superfly ski poles with “Mex -> Can”, “65 days” written on them. They should be somewhere on the side of the trail. Walk with them if you dare.

Other than that, do as you wish! It’s freedom baby, no traditions to be bound by.

Oh an there’s these traditions -> :boy , :pimp , :cheers ,
