Are there any reports of current trail conditions from Wrightwood to Saufley’s? Mainly interested in snow at the higher elevations in the San Gabriels.

Lots of snow up top…especially on north facing slopes…lots covering the trail. Not sure if you can get up to the PCT via the Acorn Trail. I did a 12 mile up and back from the first Hwy. 2 crossing north of Wrightwood…did a lot of road walking. If you want to do the actual trail, at this point in time, from Acorn Trail north a few miles, crampons and/or ice axe are a must. Good luck.

I had to bail out at CA-2 as the hike from CP to CA-2 became unhikeable on the north side of Wright Mountain and really became bad after Guffy Campground. I had to bail out and hike the road to the first ski area pond and walked 100 yards east to look back down the PCT…it was all snow and ice!!

I got picked up on a hitch by three guys from the desert who had gone ice climbing up Vincent Gap!! They said after the second switchback, it was all ice to the crest near Baden Powell. So glad I bailed out!! This was on Saturday, 19 April.

PS-I had to use my GPS to find the Acorn Trail intersection…that area was a large snowfield.

PCT Thru Hikers will start coming thru Cajon Pass in just 3 weeks!! Do you think snow will be a major obstacle then??
