Bugman. Stop in and have a draft at the Doyle before starting off. Boiling Springs is a great little stop, there is an ATC office there and small pond. You will be hiking through oat, wheat and corn fields. You will be seeing alot of day hikers and runners in this section, it is close to Baltimore and DC. You will be crossing the half-point marker and the half gallon challenge at Pine Grove. You will hike through Caledonia State Park that has picnic tables and swimming pool with a little snack bar. A pretty little park. You will hike by the first Washington Monument. Stay at Dahlgreen Back Pack Campground with running water and showers. Historical Harpers Ferry with the C&O Canal, train service and the ATC Headquarters (get your picture taken). You will run into the Roller Coaster in Va. and then into Front Royal (Stop off at Tom and Sharron Johnson’s Loft # at Front Royal Visitor Center) and then into the Shenandoah NP. This is a beautiful section, stay in huts not campground ($). Then into a great trail town Waynesboro (stop at the Y, along the river) alot of shuttles in the area. Then on to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I did not comment on terrain and difficulty, I have no idea what shape you are in, go slow and enjoy every step. Good Luck.

Bugman, Scuba and I just did 35 miles…not days…from 94 to Duncannon, so I can help with the first 4-5 days. Don’t carry much food starting out! A day and a half is all you need. You can resupply in Carlisle at the convenience store just .25 mi down Rt. 11 from the trail and eat at the restaurant right there too. They are both on the same side as the trail, so you don’t have to cross busy, 5-lane Rt. 11. Then you can resupply in Boiling Springs, either at the market .5 mi out of town (a ride was offered to us) or do what we did and resupply at the gas/convenience store. They have a picnic table right at the store for you too. There’s also a pizza place behind the gas station. Stop in the ATC office while you’re there. Unfortunately, the cafe will be closed for good when you get there, but the tavern is a great place to have a beer and sandwich. They let you put your packs in the room next door while you eat. The outfitter in Boiling Springsis for fishers NOT hikers and they weren’t especially friendly to us when we went in looking for Mountain House meals :frowning:

Have a great hike. Hope the weather is as nice as it was for us~J.

From Drunk-cannon south, I remember the easiest hiking of the entire AT. Fields, slight ridgeline ups and downs of Maryland, and the Shennies are a food orgy cake walk, still nice woodlands and rockcrops…go north from Duncannon for the real rockwalk…
