I recently stumbled across a song that takes me right back to my time on the trail. It is Phil Collins "On My Way" I feel like this song was written for a long distance hike. I recommend it to anybody out there that wants to be taken to the trail for a quick 3 minute break. I wanted to share it with you all. Carry on.

"Wagon wheel" Old crow medicine show

“State of mind” Clint black
“Crazy game of poker” and few other o.a.r. Songs
“Ramble on” Led zeppelin
“Ain’t talkin”. Bob Dylan

If you don’t like any of those I’m not sure I’ve ever heard what you listen to…any other like suggestions? I’m personally always lookin out for more.

Wow! Phil Collins must have done a thru hike. Captures it perfectly. Gives us Springer fever.

Two of our favorite AT songs are “Country Roads” John Denver & “Smoky Mtn Rain” Ronnt Milsap (perfect for a drizzly day in the Smokies.

We’re working on our own AT song. Only two versus so far.

" I love the Trail,
The Appalacian Trail,
The trail from Georgia to Maine.
Where you walk all day 'til the sun goes down,
And the next day you wake up in pain.

I love the rocks.
the pointy white rocks,
The pointy whitr rocks of P A.
They break your toes and jam your knees.
You just wanta sit down and pray"

Need a chorus and more versus.

Thanks Hacksaw! This just raised the temperature on my Springer Fever! Amazing song, it really does capture a thru-hike perfectly. I can't stop listening to it!

May everyone’s trails be downhill,

If you haven't heard Takoma Tedd's music, you must to really know great AT music.

One of the fondest memories of my '04 hike was laying on a bench at Standing Bear Farm staring up at a sky saturated with stars with the brook bubbling behind me and a fire crackling before me while Takoma Tedd played his backpacking guitar. The fire illuminated the smile of a cute (but taken) blonde girl on another bench as she also listened.

If you have to just choose one, get BLUE NOTES BETWEEN THE WHITE BLAZES. Track 1 and 9 are among my favorites.

I always liked the cute song from the movie Southbounders "One More Mile to Go"

One more mile to go
Before I lighten my load
At the top of the mountain, there’s a shelter I know
It’s one more mile to go

Oh hikin’ along, just a singin’ this song
Don’t know where I’ll head up tonight
Saw lots of smiles on the trail yesterday
Yeah, and you know this trail’s treatin’ me right"

And then we would make up versus as we hiked along about tonights stop or the next trail town or whatever!

If you know this song from G.F. Handel's "The Messiah" you'd sing it on some tough stretches. You wouldn't want the words to come true immediately - that'd ruin the fun - but you might sing them with a vague sense of yearning.
