I am doing a section hike from Tehachapi to Yosemite and was wondering what kind of permits I’ll need. There is a lot of info on permits in the guide book…too much info…Can anyone tell me what I’ll need?
Thanks!!

If your hike is 500 miles or more, the VISITORS PERMIT issued by the PCTA will cover you. Tehachapi to Yosemite is 376 miles. So why don’t you “plan” on hiking from Tehachapi to Echo Lake
. That would be 528 miles and the VISITORS PERMIT would cover you. Then maybe something will happen on the trail and you’ll have to unexpectedly end your “planned”
hike at Tuolumne
.
You’ll also need a fire permit. There has been a lot of discussion on PCT-L lately about the fire permit. Go here http://mailman.backcountry.net/pipermail/pct-l/2005-March/date.html to view those messages.
