Picasso with Nikwax

After sucessfully 'prrofing my new asolo 535’s and my old TNF shell jacket, I can claim expert status on applying nikwax. At least in liquid form. Why am I writing this post…to simply ask, IS THERE ANYTHING EASIER THAN THIS CRAP TO APPLY. It took me 40$ worth to get the process down so I dont have big gloopy runs, especially on my shell. Besides that, anybody have any experience with frogg toggs? ya know the immaculate conception of waterproof breatheable stuff…and do they have to be re 'proofed every other week? Another question I have is what kinda socks do you all use? wool, thorlo, barefoot etc. Thats about it.

I gave up pulling my hair out on what and how to apply my boot products. The seller said on thing, the manufacture said another. One thing I agree with is if you have a Gore-Tex lined boot and you want to proof the outer leather don’t over silicone it or it weakens the leather until it falls apart. About three times a year and some Danner boot dressing to freshen up the scuffs. Sox, yes we have sox. The very best liners we have found are Fow River X-Statics from REI. They have this silver thread stuff which kills bacteria and it does work. $8 a pair. They are very smooth and don’t rub you raw. Get a size larger than you need. For some reason they shrink a tad. Outers? We get what ever is there. I haven’t found much of a difference.

Well, I changed out my leather boots for running shoes. Running shoes require no such pampering. I traded in my Goretex Jacket for the cheapest lightest “emergency style” coated nylon jacket. It requires no such pampering. I am going to try Frog Toggs next time I go out, I’ll see which is really easier to take care of. My gear, so far, is really really easy to take care of.

I just bought my husband and me a set of frogg toggs because 2 thru hikers we had at our house loved them.so far we have taken them on 3 winter trips and ware them regularly just around town.So far we love them.Light weight, comfortable, great colors, cheep enough to be replaceable, very wind and waterproof. No you do not reapply waterproofing that i know of.We are takeing them on our thru hike this year 14 oz of pleasure.they do however melt if you get them anywhere near heat of any kind.so no standing by the fire with them on.They are washable just dont dry them in the dryer.
