The ATC has a slide show of all the hikers that have reached HF.

Great pictures, 70 NOBO's already. I would love the date taken on the picture.

Just for the record...There are a few individual who elect not to have a photo taken by the ATC. Having a picture taken at Haper's Ferry is not a pre-requisite for completing a thru hike. Personally, I have never felt the desire to validate my long distance hiking to anyone or any organization. My choice not to jump on the ATC bandwagon is a personal one. If hikers feel the need to support the ATC please send them a check … narcissism is all too prevalent in our society already. :pimp

Your unsolicited opinion seems far more narcissistic than having a simple photo taken to commemorate what for most is a once in a lifetime undertaking. "I have never", "my long distance hiking", "My choice"...

If you get there on a sunday, they are closed & I didn't get my picture taken; nor am I probly on the thru list 22 years ago... I did leave a note in favor of the roadwalk....did they ever put roadwalk on trail up on the bumpy ridge behind the dairys???

Relax. It's just high school yearbook for fledgling walkers. So very important to the tikes. "How cute" to the rest of us.

Why would the ATC be interested in taking photos of anyone who walks in the door looking to pose in front of the camera? Maybe someone once suggested that by snapping pictures and placing them in a log the participants involved might somehow feel as if they belong to a pseudo club of sorts. And as such would be more inclined to support the organization who took the photo hence keeping this mug shot alive for all to see in future years. Other organizations have made scads of money doing just that…take the Who’s Who of whatever series of books or the publication willing to name a star after anyone for a fee. The intent of this post is not intended to by cynical, rather just another of the many topics to ponder while walking in the woods.

"Lighten up Francis" for cryingout loud... I actually look forward to seeing my old photo there at ATC (1980 thru-hike), brings back good memories hiking into Harpers Ferry. A big milestone for any thru-hikers trek one would think and what's the matter with documenting the moment?

Sorry if my posting on this topic was a little too philisophical. I will take your advice and lighten up a little as there is certainly no harm in having a picture taken of oneself. After all Harper's Ferry is but just a stopping point on a great ride called the AT. :boy

Damn. I didn't realize that taking picture at HF would cause any problems. I'm going to ask the ATC to send me back my donations and membership fees. I never imagined that it was a scheme to get my money. However, I do like looking at Stumpknocker as he changes over the years.
