Pinkham Notch - Appalachian Trail

We are coming from Georgia to hike the AT on Tuesday and were wondering about trail conditions north of Pinkham notch. If any of you guys or girls are up that way this weekend we would like a first hand account. I noted that there has been a great amount of rain last week. Does this amount of rain deplet or melt most of the snow on the trail at altitude and in notches? Any help would help us with proper gear planning.

I was in Crawford Notch last weekend. The trails are still snow covered and ice covered about about 2500 feet. Below that, frost is coming out of the ground, so it’s mud season. Advice is to stay off the trails until late May because hikers can do a lot of damage to the trails while the ground is soft.

There was lots of rain last weekend. On sunday the golf course at Bretton Woods/ Mount Washington Hotel was flooded. In fact, the road into the hotel was under water.

Hey Cantore!! I know you feel the urge to answer this one being you are from NH. Hell, or just because you like to talk and see your name in print. haha

Its been cool and rainy here in The Whites for the last week. Elevations above 3500’ got snow last Thursday night. Mount Washington looked pristine and white again. There is still plenty of snow on the trails above 3200’. Definitly go to www.viewsfromthetop.com for more information on current conditions.

There was still rotten snow at 2500 feet in Crawford Notch this weekend. Others are reporting deep rotten snow in the normal dark shady places and lots of mud all over. Mahoosuc Notch will most likely require snowshoes and a lot of luck. Streams and rivers are really running high right now. No bugs at 1400 feet in Gorham but they were out a few weeks ago. Your best source of trail conditions would be viewsfromthetop.com

Has anyone out there hiked the Mahoosuc Notch this time of year? I was wondering if there is enough snow that with snowshoes you can just walk over the rocks and tunnels you usally have to crawl through.
