As a section hiker myself, I’m always on the lookout for good parking tips. The best I’ve found as a general reference is the Appalachian Trail Parking site run by Cyndi and David Rohland (two wonderful people from right here in my own PA.) Here is their listing for North Adams:
“There is no overnight parking at the trailhead but overnight parking may be available 100 yards east of the AT on MA2 at the Greylock Community Club. Make sure you inquire first. There are several major stores within a short walk of the AT in either direction from the AT crossing.”
That sounds an awful lot like the place A-Train was talking about. If it is, think about sending the Rohlands an update.
They have a host of good parking tips, excellent trail (and parking area and campsite) photos on the site too. It’s well laid out and really goes in depth with info where they have it. They are expanding the site as fast as possible with submissions from hikers, so if you have data to share, please do so (especially for New England and the lower South.) The URL is:
