Next year on my thruhike I have plans to spend a couple day or so in Harpers Ferry. The plan is to get there around June 10, which is my wife & I’s 39 th wedding anniversery. The plan is for her to meet me there. I am looking for some help on where to stay. My wife’s idea of ruffing it is to stay in a Holiday Inn. So any help would be appreciated.

In 2002, I stayed at the Harpers Ferry Guest House. It is a B&B located directly across the street from the ATC HQ. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and would recommend it to anyone.

My husband and I live nearby in MD and we have stayed at the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown for several anniversary’s. They have rooms with jacuzzi tubs. The rooms look out over the potomac river. It also has a nice german resturant and the town of Shepherdstown is a cute little town with a few nice places to eat and shops. It is just up the river from H.F. and since your wife will have a car it would work. You must make reservations long in advance (months) in order to get one of the jacuzzin rooms.

Enjoy!

Sounds like the wife wouldn’t enjoy the hostel (assuming it is still there.)

I enjoyed my stay at Hill House. 'course part of that was the Civil War Surgeons Banquet that night (re-enactors). The other part was that a comet was visible that night. Shortly after I pointed it out to another guest, the hotel doused all unnecessary lights and announced to everyone that they could see the comet from the front lawn. A lot of establishments wouldn’t interrupt their events or routines for a comet.

Thanks guys for your input. I live in west Texas and have never been in your neck of the woods, so this will give me an idea where to start looking.
