What was your favorite Hotel, Motel, or Bed and Breakfast on the PCT and why? I would be interested to see if any of your choices coincide with mine. It might help future PCT hikers in choosing a place to stay.

Hiking from the Rodriguez Fire Tank to Scissors Crossing I miscalculated how much water I would need. It was a 100 degree day and by the time I reached Scissors Crossing I was about as tired as I had ever been in my life. I decided to make an unscheduled trip into Julian and spend the night. I was dropped off next to the Julian Gold Rush Hotel Bed and Breakfast. There was a little sign that said “PCT Hiker Discount”. I was smelly, dirty, with sweat rings of salt all over my shirt and shorts, and as I went to the front desk to ask about prices I wasn’t in the mood to have anyone looking down their nose at me. The desk clerk greeted me with a cheerful smile. The price for a single was $65. She told me there were two rooms available and I could check them out and see which one I preferred. I picked the one at the end of the hall. She said that the hotel would do a load of laundry for me for free and handed me a plastic sack. She said if I hurried I could make tea time with coffee and all kinds of teas, cakes and cookies. I just wanted to take a shower and take a nap. The hotel was from the 1890’s and had been recently refurbished but it still had the feel of that time period. The room was spotless and all the appliances in the bathroom were new and spotless. I was so tired that after having dinner at a nearby restaurant, I went to bed at 8:00 pm and slept for eleven hours on the soft bed in the quiet hotel. The next morning I went down for breakfast. I told myself that I would have their breakfast which probably wouldn’t be much and then go across the street and have a real breakfast. Was I wrong. Breakfast started with granola and cream, a cup of yogurt, fresh baked warm bread and scones, a quiche, apples, bananas, and pears in a basket and unlimited coffee with a pitcher of cream. The owner of the hotel came by a couple of times to see if I was liking my breakfast. This guy was a perfectionist and took great pride in his hotel and his staff reflected that. People like this should be recognized and I’m glad I did just that. Check out time was 12:00 and I went back to my room and slept for three more hours. Bt the time I left the hotel I was clean, refreshed, recharged and ready to hit the trail.

Thanks Apple. That’s the first time I have posted a topic. I didn’t even notice that there were forums. If the moderator wants to delete my posts and topic, feel free.
