I was reading the paper Saturday morning and saw that there had been an airplane crash one mile from Clingman’s Dome near the A.T. It happened last Thursday(27th) night around 10 P.M. Just wondering if any thru-hikers heard the crash or saw it later on.

We were about 7 miles from the crash site this weekend. Flame, Sunrise, Sunset, Big Red and I (all of '02 GA-ME)were doing Trail Magic at Newfound Gap in the Smokeys Friday and Saturday. The hikers coming from Double Springs Shelter said the trail was litered with plane parts. Old Blue, (whom we carried to the Airport in Knoxville Sunday) said he saw the plane Thursday night bank and turn near him at Mollies Ridge, Then heard the crash. We fed 35 hikers Friday and Saturday and only 2 said they heard anything. The wind was very strong Thursday and Friday so it probably blocked out any sound. We were unable to do Magic on Sunday because of the snow and ice. They closed the road. It was reported that the dome got a foot or better of snow.
