Planning a hike

I am planning a section hike on the AT from Amicalola Falls to somewhere north. I am planning from July 3 to July 11. I will be flying into Atlanta and am looking for a shuttle to get me to the trail Any comment or suggetions? Or is anyone in the area free that day to pick me up and take me to the park? I can offer gas and you are welcome to come on the hike with me if you have time. Thanks in advance. Jason

Do the Georgia section. Amicalola to Dick’s Creek Gap. 8 Miles shy of NC. There is a new Hiker Hostel at Woody Gap they will pick you up at the airport, bring you the their place for the night, provide breakfast, and take you to Amicalola or Springer the next morning. I think its around 55 bucks. I’m not sure how to get in touch with them. Check the net under Hiker Hostel. The Ga. section is awesome. Have a blast.

The Hiker Hostel in Dahlonega, GA near Woody Gap is pretty nice. The people there are former thru-hikers of the AT (GA-ME '00). They provide a great deal in terms of shuttles and specials. It is even possible to walk the AT all the way through Georgia with just a Day Pack on your back while staying at the Hiker Hostel if that appeals to you. Imagine, a warm bed each night – a good breakfast (AYCE) each morning and dinner out in the Gold Rush Capital of the south each evening at a different restaurant. Look them up! www.HikerHostel.com and see for yourself the facilities and accommodations.

The Taxi fare alone is at least $60.00 from Gainesville, GA to Amicalola State Park and the Hiker Hostel offers a better deal.

Of course, it is possible to get to Gainesville, GA by train from Atlanta and then walk the 20 (or so) miles to Amicalola or try to hitchhike but it is a very iffy thing.

Thanks everyone for your help. I did contact the Hiker Hostel but they will be out of town that weekend. They did give me another phone number though so it looks like I will have a way to the Trail. I am looking forward to this. Any one who would like to come along let me know. You can email at my address above. See ya on the trail. Spacewalker
