Planning workbooks

Can anyone recommend a good workbook for planning an AT thru-hike? I know there’s one put out by Christopher Whalen and ATC, and another one put out by Dan “Wingfoot” Bruce. Does anyone have any experience with these or other planning workbooks?

Yeah, I used the Whalen book. It had good info in it as far as addresses and stuff . The part on gear was good. I thought his food part didnt work for me.I didnt eat as much as his book had me believe.Just pack what gear you need. Lose half of it in the first 100 miles and buy food in town every three to four days. Theres about 3 -4 places were resupply is a little hard or expensive. They’re covered in another thread. just read your handbook and mail ahead of your self by a few days

I used a variety of books to help plan my thru-hike. First, for making up a base line schedule, I used the AT Data Book and Wingfoot’s Thru-hiker Handbook. The handbook lists the number of mail drops received at each post office along the way.

After the trek, I bought Roland Meuser’s book “Long Distance Hiking.” He surveyed hikers in 1989 and published the findings. So, if you have questions about how far and how fast, what equipment, when to start, etc. this book has the answers.

I also used Chris Whalen’s book, but thought it could be better done. Anyway, it gave me some ideas for how I wanted to plan my hike.
