Anybody got any good suggestions for a book on specifically A.T. plant life? Maybe something compact enough to take on my thru hike next week. I’d like to identify as much as I can.

Maybe look at a little book called “Flower Finder by May Watts” (ISBN 0-912550-00-7) About 4 x 6 inches and a quarter inch thick, it weighs in at 1.8 ounces. No color photos, but good line drawings and clear details. Its one of those guides thats says is it this or this?, then go to page so or so, where it asks another set of questions, and so on, till you identify the plant. I’ve carried it several times and have been glad to have it. I think there is a tree book in the same series. Tim

“Wildflowers of the AT” by Leonard M. Adkins. 6x9 17oz. Excellent color photography. Adkins identifies the flowers from Springer to Katahdin.

The Arbor Day Foundation offers a pamplet on tree identification for East of the Rockies. I think it’s about $3-$4.
